Referrals are the lifeblood of my business. Trish, a past client who had used me to sell two homes in Ajax, one in Pickering, another in Guelph and a commercial unit in Pickering, suggested her friend, Kelly, give me a call.
When Kelly called, he said his house had been listed for sale with another agent for two months and already had two price reductions. He was very unhappy with the service – the only time the agent spoke to him was when she wanted to reduce the price. He said Trish spoke highly of me and he wanted to set up a meeting. I had to tell him that unfortunately, I couldn’t speak to him. Since he was already listed, that would be interference. There was just over a month left on his listing contract. I said if they were still not sold when the listing expired, we could meet then.
Kelly called me back a month later to say his contract was about to expire. We booked a date to meet at his home so I could get a look and take detailed notes I could use on the listing data sheet in the event they decided to use me to re-list. While there I suggested a few things they could do to prepare their home for sale before I sent in my photographer. They said they appreciated my professionalism in following the rules by not meeting with them until their listing agreement with their first agent expired and agreed they would use me to sell. However, they wanted time to complete some of the things I suggested they do to prepare the house for sale again.
About six months later, we re-listed the home for sale and sold it for 100% of the asking price in just 13 days!
As I say above, referrals are the lifeblood of my business. The ultimate compliment I can receive from a past client is when they feel confident enough that I won’t embarrass them when they refer me to someone they know, which is what Trish did.
